Dressing a bed in style.

Have you ever wondered how to make your bed up like this?

Believe it or not, there is a bit of an art to it, but the art itself is not difficult. It just takes practice.

What will you need?

  1. Bedskirt
  2. Mattress Protector
  3. Fitted Sheet
  4. Flat Sheet
  5. Duvet, Comforter, or Bedspread
  6. 2 Sleeping Pillows and Pillow Cases (not shown here)
  7. 2 European Pillows and Pillow Shams
  8. 3 Pillows and Pillow Shams (optional, but shown here)
  9. Optional: Blanket or Throw

So now that you have all the pieces, how do you put them togther?

It’s all in the tugging, tucking, folding back and layering of the bedding. Check out this video link to see how it’s done. Once the bed is made up, the finishing touch is all in your pillows: how many you decide to use, what style(s) you opt for, and how you position them.

Did you know that the bed should be the focal point in a bedroom, and that it should be positioned so you feel like it’s greeting you? This means the rest of the décor works out from where the bed is placed.

I love the feeling of this room! Can you see how the décor builds out from the bed? And did you notice that this bed is made up differently than the one above? If you watch the video you’ll see here a variation of the 3-fold mentioned, in the bedspread.

So often bedrooms are the last space to be considered for decorating and presentation, while the focus is placed on the main living areas. But I always recommend bedrooms be finished first, because it’s the place where you end your day, and where you start your next one. The place you retreat to where you can completely let go to rest and recharge. That to me is worth making the bed up in style!

Do you have any tips to share?
