Kaleigh’s Room: The Gold Just Keeps on Going

So the progress in Kaleigh’s room continues. Now that the TV stand is finished and in place, we’re moving on to the walls. Not painting, just covering them up a bit with artwork and things.

Here is what her room looks like right now, well the wall colour is off, but in these darker days, it always seems to be…

And this is the the mirror she wants behind her couch.

But she wants it to be all the same shiny gold, not the matte, shiny, and brown tones you see here.

So this is what I was doing today…

Too late to turn back now!

And here’s what’s happening over on the other side of her room. See what I mean about the colour? Neither wall is showing true.

I’m hoping to convince her to move her bed over just a bit. She likes it where it is… but I”ll keep trying.

And that’s because all those images you see on the bed are her picks from our trip to New York last year. And they’re slated to go on the wall behind her bed. So do you see why I think the bed needs to be snugged over?

I have another project up my sleeve for her that I was working on today as well, but it’s a surprise. So I’ll have to save that for a later post for, let’s say, after Christmas ;-)

In the mean time, it’s one step at a time to bring some colour and life into this space… without painting the walls! But that might still come at another time.

Are you crazy busy with projects right now? It is that time of the year, isn’t it?

    • Thank you Luciane!
I remember the Toys R Us days! There wasn’t one where we lived when Kaleigh was small, but we made the most of our visits whenever we were near one!
And good for you for being so organized. Wow!
      xo Sheila

  2. kids and their ideas. My daughter squirms at the idea of hardwood in her bedroom and claims she may fall! Seriously. Yes I am up to my eyeballs with projects these days.

    I like the mirror!

  3. I bought two accent chairs last week with the hopes to recover and paint.. the only problem is TIME!!! looks good Sheila :)

  4. I love using photos from your New York trip in her room – how fun. I’m already thinking about ideas for my daughter’s big girl room. Not that I’m rushing it AT ALL but fun to do girls rooms, isn’t it?

    • Hi Holly!
We are having a lot of fun doing this bigger girl’s room – next step, college… eeeeek! And you are so right not to rush it – it feels like just yesterday that I was doing her room in princess pink (that was a stretch for me because I’m not a huge pink fan… but she was!). Every stage is so great, and what I’ve loved is seeing how Kaleigh’s tastes have changed as she’s gotten older. The only pink in her room now is a throw that has special meaning to her! …Now, if I can only get her to think moving her bed over is her idea! ;-)

  5. Looking great Sheila. I love that mirror. What paint did you use for it? I would sneak into her room while she’s out and move her bed. That’s just the kind of mom I am:)

    • Thanks Carol! I’m thinking I might just have to take your advice on moving the bed ;.-)
The gold I used is just a Rust-Oleum Shiny Metallic Finish spray paint – it’s Gold / OR N1910830 … says for a bright reflective finish. I also looked at one that’s called liquid chrome, and it’s a whiter gold, but I was afraid it would come out looking too silvery. I’m actually pretty happy with this one. The frame has come out really well, better than I expected for a shiny gold finish, but exactly what I was hoping for!

  6. I’m loving the new gold paint on the mirror…! You’re daughter’s room is really coming along nicely! Great job so far!
