Nailhead embellishments – a great finishing detail for that final touch of glamour, or added character of an aged and rustic look. It all depends on the nailheads you use, and how you apply them.

So you can see just from these few examples how much potential there is to create a stunning piece in whatever look you’re wanting to achieve.
You’re probably used to seeing the traditional application of nailheads trimming a piece, like this:

And now what you’ll be seeing more of are patterns created with nailheads. This is something you can DIY if you’re wanting a fresh new look for an existing piece, or even if you want to tackle a whole project from scratch, like a custom headboard. Without getting into the details of a specific DIY project, I thought I’d share some examples of patterns with you so you can decide for yourself if this might be a project for you!
Chartreuse is a hot colour for 2012.
Do you have a mirror you can add colour to, and maybe finish in a pattern with nailhead?
Or how about a tufted ottoman like this one? Again, the colour is in keeping with the bright, bold palette moving in.
Did you know that you will also be seeing a lot more of the Greek key turning up in fabrics in the coming year? I thought the use of nailheads to create this pattern in this ottoman was very cool.
