Window Frame Mirror: The Mate

Window Frame Mirror: The Mate

I’ve received lots of feedback and suggestions on my post, Intimate Reflections, about what to balance the window frame mirror with that we just hung. And the majority said to hang another mirror on the opposite side of the bed…

This is the ‘decorating in progress’ photo I shared in the post.

I want to veer away from total symmetry, so another mirror that’s slightly different would work for me.

Here are some basic ideas that I have in mind, and of course will have to sleuth out when it comes to making a purchasing decision. And we’re in no rush because part of the fun is the thrill of the hunt!

I fell in love with this one as soon as I saw it.

It’s a vintage French mirror, but I’m thinking it’s a little too curvy and ornate when paired with the other mirror. And it would need to be darkened up in some variation of a black, or distressed black to balance with the other mirror. Hmmm. It would definitely steer the direction for the rest of the space!

And then I saw this one.

I could instantly envision this totally working. It’s a vintage latched window mirror from India. LOVE! What caught my attention is the shutter feature, because opposite where this would hang are the closet doors. Not such a great feature to be doubling in a reflection. Whereas opposite the other mirror is a great space to hang artwork, another project still in limbo!

Then with a little more searching I found this one.

And here’s a side view.

This is also a vintage shutter mirror. I like the similar style with the panes, but the slight variation of the shutters. And I can totally see a DIY opportunity to accomplish this. A modification I might make would be to antique the mirror, (a process I wrote about here) just to tone down the reflection of the closet doors.

My favorite is the second mirror, but it might not be that easy to find one like it. So if I had to guess where we’re headed, it would be mirror number three!

We still have to decide what to do above the bed, which will all depend on the mirror mate outcome.

What would you put in that spot?
