Pumpkin Grunge!

Not too long ago my friend Stevie Rose from Garden Therapy shared her awesome Jack o Planterns, and I was totally hooked on the idea! I mean, what’s not to love about an organic approach to Halloween, right? I know, that’s kind of an oxymoron… Halloween and organic don’t usually roll off the tongue in the same sentence!

Here’s a peek at Stevie’s inspirational creations!

See what I mean? How can you not be hooked on this idea?

Today I finally got outside to tip all my plant pots out, and clean up the yard for the winter. And here’s where my pumpkin grunge comes in! You see, I had hubs buy two pumpkins the other day just so we could give this organic DIY a whirl! My one modus operandi was to reuse plants I was tipping out rather than buying new.

Here’s a look at Miss Cool & Hip Grunge One…

Gotta love her chopped chive hair!

And this is her Freaky Friend, Grunge Two.

Kind of creepy in a scruffy sort of way, but how about that Mohawk?!!!

Which of the two ‘dos’ do you like best?

I have to give hubs all the credit for their their facial features. He drew and carved them! And then I got to dress them up :-)

Not too bad for salvaged garden wear… ;-)

I’m actually kind of concerned these two might scare the little ones… what do you think?

I’m going to have a happy Jack O Lantern, too! We haven’t carved him yet, but he’ll have a nice big smile that lights up his face with the help of a candle. And we have a big decorative pumpkin that lights up and twinkles with mini lights… much friendlier to encounter!

So what do you think of my Grunge One & Two?

Once Halloween is over I’ll be composting the works, except for the Hens & Chicks. And I might see if the ‘Red Star’ Mohawk will be able to stand up to the winter months. Oh, and the grass of Grunge One’s nose will be given another chance, too!

Isn’t this Jack o Plantern idea fun? Thanks again Stevie for the inspiration! I never would have come up with this on my own :-)
