Natural Curb Appeal in the Cowichan

These photos were taken on Saturday, seriously. And I do mean Saturday – a few days ago – Saturday! But with the torrential downpours since then, you’d never believe it.

Relax and enjoy!

Doesn’t this make you want to take a spin?

DIY Inspiration: Trestles to Ladders

On Wednesday I enjoyed an outing to the Kinsol Trestle with Kaleigh and my Dad, and some of his golfing buddies :-)

It was another scorching day, and what a beautiful place to be on hot, sunny summer afternoon.

This is looking down from the trestle… believe me, it was a loooong way down! I held onto my camera tight.

Here’s the trestle going in.

You can see they’re still doing some work on it. But for the most part it’s a restoration with an end in sight.

This is the trestle looking back toward the Shawnigan Lake entrance.

Isn’t it amazing?

And then this structure got me to thinking. Even though it’s really a bridge, it’s kind of built like a ginormous ladder, but DON’T try climbing this one!

So I decided to check out repurposed ladders in décor. And here are a few of the cool ideas that I found.

This one reminded me most of the trestle, probably because of the background, but also because of how it narrows from base to top. Doesn’t it make a great plant stand?

I love the presentation of these side-by-side ladder book shelves.

Using ladders for shelves is pretty common, but it’s the lanterns and the ‘R’ that made me think of the railway… and connected that to the trestle.

Here’s another example of a ladder being used for a shelf.

I can see storing my magazines on one like this.

Or how about a place to ditch… I mean, display every  woman’s fetish…

Shoes are every woman’s fetish aren’t they?

Ladders make great towel bars too.

In fact, I could use one of these right now! But I need to find an old ladder first. I’ll take 2 please!

And for the laundry fanatics like me, you know, where hanging to dry is part of the program…

Source

How about repurposing a ladder into a drying rack?

And since we’re talking about hanging around…

Source

Would you consider using a ladder for a pot rack?

Or for hanging lanterns up outside? Come to think of it, you could use this inside too!

I love this idea! And I think the lanterns are fab!

But I’ve also gotten a little off track… or did you notice? ;-)

What are you doing this weekend? Is an outing in your plans… like maybe to the Kinsol Trestle? Or will you be sticking close to home and tackling projects? Would repurposing a ladder intrigue you? Hmmm. Clearly, inspiration can come from anywhere!

Thanks for stopping by!
