Change It Up… One-Two-Three

Colourful Folding Screen - Pinterest

So our stormy weather blasted through, flipped our BBQ over (yup, it’s toast), knocked our power out, and did in one of our mega UPS battery power bars… so glad we had the UPS though, or it could’ve been the audio equipment instead

Guess why this folding screen caught my eye…

Let’s just say I’m ready for some sunshine and colour! Bright, cheerful, playful and dry!

Since I’ve got you looking at the folding screen, I decided to share a few more. I know they’re nothing new, but they . . . → Read More: Change It Up… One-Two-Three

A Rare MCM Plycraft Chair by George Mulhauser

Black Mulhauser Chair - Suburban Pioneer

When you hear the name George Mulhauser, there’s probably one or two very distinct chairs, maybe even three that come to mind. But I bet this chair I’m about to show you isn’t one of them!

When I saw this reference to a mystery chair in House Beautiful…

Quirky Green Chair

The mystery chair: Frank saw it in an antiques store, fell in love with it, and has no idea who designed it.

I knew I had to write this piece! For that mystery chair was this one I pinned about 17 weeks ago! And at the time I . . . → Read More: A Rare MCM Plycraft Chair by George Mulhauser

Vintage Waste Bins… That’s Right, Garbage Cans!

Hollywood Regency - Gold Trash can - c1950-60

I thought with the new year underway, and resolutions for decluttering being the current pitch, it would be fun to bring some vintage into the mix.

As in vintage waste bins! They can be a fabulous decor accent, just wait and see!

Like this Hollywood Regency goddess of gold, c. 1950s-60s.

Can you see this being a good fit with the warm metals on the scene?

How about this fun little retro gem… black poodles, pink bows… c. 1950s.

It’s A Mystery… I’m Seeking It’s History!

2012 - Vintage Luggage Case 018

So I got this little mystery for Christmas…

It’s history, I’m sure, is kept under lock and key.

Here is the clasp that goes with it…

And the underside of it, too.

A little rusty, but vintage for sure.

I thought this brass tag might be a clue…

And maybe these brass nail heads, too.

They’re pushed through to a wooden frame on the inside…

That’s clad in an off-white papery fabric.

The exterior has reinforced leather corners…

And the top is fitted with a super heavy-duty leather carrying handle.

Antiquing, Thrifting & Vintage Finds

348px-Aluminum_Christmas_tree2

I love popping into antique stores at this time of year. If the store does it right, the setting is perfect for that old fashioned Christmas feel, and yesterday was one of those days.

As soon as I walked in I was greeted with antique tables set in the finest of china from years gone by, and sparkling chandeliers twinkling above. And as I moved in closer there before me was a table-top tinsel tree… a Mid-Century Modern aluminum tree! I had my camera and didn’t even think to take a picture of it

But it looked something . . . → Read More: Antiquing, Thrifting & Vintage Finds

The Modern Eye Exhibit: Craft & Design in Canada 1940-1980

2011 - The Modern Eye MCM Exhibit - Greater Victoria Art Gallery 092

When I wrote about our recently acquired bar stools, I mentioned the Modern Eye Exhibit that’s winding down at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. If you haven’t seen it, this Sunday is your last chance before the exhibit moves on.

To see so many amazing pieces all at once was almost too much! All I wanted to do was sit in the chairs, they were all so incredible and inviting… but I’m pretty sure I would’ve been tossed out on my tush if I tried! We were, however, allowed to take pictures without flash, so I was happy . . . → Read More: The Modern Eye Exhibit: Craft & Design in Canada 1940-1980

Fab Bar Stools For Us!

2011 - MCM Bar Stools 044

Ever since we moved into this home we have been keeping bar stools in the back of our mind. We have a breakfast bar, but without stools. So it’s really just been a feature that allows us to prepare dinner and still be part of the conversation beyond the kitchen prep area.

Do you remember this VERY early ‘Before’ photo?

Yes, this would be prior to any moving in taking place!

And then you might remember this post when I described to-die-for bar stools I had found on ebay – Mid-Century Modern finds… only they were in Australia . . . → Read More: Fab Bar Stools For Us!
